Amitabh Bachchan unveiled eminent production designer Nitin Chadrakant Desai's book, "Adhunik Yugaacha Vishwakarma" on the occasion of the latter's 25 years in the Indian film industry. The launch took place at the JW Marriot in Juhu, Mumbai on Monday August 8th, 2011.
Amitabh Bachchan mentioned that it was the most humbling and emotional moment!! Nitin, a humble modest man that grew up in the 'chawls' of Mumbai became most prominent production designer, and owner of NSD studios".
Emotion suffused the air and tears flowed copiously, as a choked Nitin Chandrakant Desai stood on the dais, unabashedly expressing his sentiments. He has completed a glorious 25 years in business as set designer and has won the National Award bagging set specialist. The biography has been penned by editor Mandar Joshi of Sakal Group of Publications & ICPPL.
A show reel illumining the repertoire of the four time National Award winner (Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, Hum De Chuke Sanam, Devdas and Lagaan) that spans close to 109 films, a host of serials and foreign flicks as well (Slumdog Millionaire, Salaam Bombay), anchored by Mrinal Kulkarni and Makarand Deshpande sufficed to spotlight his path- breaking work.
Extending the honors was Chief Guest Amitabh Bachchan, looking natty as usual seated amid a posse of celebs Vidhu Vinod Chopra, art director Nitish Roy ( Desai's unofficial Guru), Uddhav Thackeray, Kiran Shantaram, Feroz Abbas Khan, Ketan Mehta and Manmohan Shetty, and many notable guests.
Chopra described him as being "extra sincere", a young assistant to Roy on the sets of his Parinda. While director Feroz of Gandhi My Father, hailed Nitin as a "boy from a humble background" who was "never short on madness". Ketan Mehta lauded him as being one "who dreamt the biggest dreams" and fructified them into reality on the strength of his genius and intrepid stance.
His eyes were flooded with tears… as Nitin thanked "everybody connected with my success", terming Bachchan as a "living God who has always encouraged me"… and post book release, prostrated himself at the feet of the veteran icon!
Also spotted at the event were, Rashmi Thackeray, Rajkumar Hirani, Makarand Deshpande, Udit Narayan, Sudesh Bhosle with wife Hema Bhosle, Vidya Malvade, Prahlad Kakkar, Manoj Joshi, Ramesh Deo, Abhinay Deo, Mita Vashisht, Suresh Wadkar and wife, Atul Parchure, Tinu Verma, Bhavana Balsavar, Shubha Khote, Asawari Joshi, Leena Mogre among others.
